Sony buys out Ericsson
In €1.05 billion deal.
Sony has completely bought out phone maker Ericsson, for a whopping €1.05 billion.
The move means that Sony now completely controls the mobile phone division, and could begin releasing phones without the Ericsson moniker at all.
"We can more rapidly and more widely offer consumers smartphones, laptops, tablets and televisions that seamlessly connect with one another and open up new worlds of online entertainment," Sony Chairman Howard Stringer said.
It also raises interesting possibilities for the growth of the Android PlayStation suite, and the future of the Sony Ericsson PlayStation-certified Xperia Play phone.
There's even an outside chance we might see some form of telephony on forthcoming handheld, PlayStation Vita.
