Sony has finally locked down a UK release date for forthcoming handheld, PlayStation Vita. It'll be hitting store shelves in two flavours from 22nd February.

"PlayStation Vita is an incredible device that offers the best possible portable gaming experiences," Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Jim Ryan said. "Its revolutionary mix of features combined with social connectivity, delivers a platform for gamers to play games in a whole new way and to connect with their friends and the world around them. We're very excited to launch a portable gaming device that goes beyond anything available on the market and is positioned to deliver the uncompromised gaming experiences consumers have been asking for."

The Wi-Fi only model, which is the cheaper of the two, is priced up at £229.99. The Model with 3G and WiFi goes for £279.99.

Sony also released the full hardware specs of the Vita, confirming the rumoured quad-core processor and 512MB of available RAM. If we had to be picky, we'd say the camera resolutions were a bit naff, but if you plan on using the Vita as a camera then you've probably gone a bit mad anyway.
