New Quest mode, renewed rock focus

The Guitar Hero franchise has never been one to sit quietly and let things carry on, but Activision's latest offering, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, looks set to change the game quite a bit.

The biggest change comes with the inclusion of a story-driven 'Quest' mode, narrated by KISS frontman Gene Simmons, which has you journeying the world to aid the Demi-God of Rock to take down "the Beast" and save rock-and-roll. Sounds a bit Tenacious D to us, but that's no bad thing.

There'll also be a new Quickplay+ mode, which will offer unque challenges for all of the on-disc tracks as well as the 500+ downloadable Guitar Hero tracks. The challenges are themed to coincide with the Quest mode, as you can pick Warrior of Rock powers to help you achieve the targets, which comprise of such things as Band Streak, High Score and Power Challenge.

Neversoft are of course handling development (on PS3 and 360, at least; Vicarious Visions are handling the Wii version) , and promise the biggest number of tracks on disc yet seen in a music game- over 90 in all. There'll also be a new Guitar controlled to go with the game, which is apparently specially designed for shredding.

Confirmed tracks so far:

  • AFI – “Dancing Through Sunday”
  • Anthrax – “Indians”
